2 arrested in Fresno kidnapping, attempted bank robbery

FRESNO, Calif.

It happened Friday afternoon at the Wells Fargo branch at Cedar and Herndon avenues.

Fresno police say the crime started in Southeast Fresno shortly after noon. They say a victim in her 80s was kidnapped from her home, then two female suspects stole her car and attempted to rob the bank. They weren't able to complete the robbery and fled the scene -- getting only a few blocks away before being arrested.

Police say the two women were wearing East Indian head coverings, and the victim was hooded in the back seat. The two suspects are in their mid-20s to late-30s and face several charges.

"Well obviously robbing a bank there are federal charges involved: robbery, kidnap and depending what else transpired there could be additional charges as well," said Lt. Don Gross with the Fresno Police Department.

Lt. Gross says the victim wasn't hurt, and a spokesperson for Wells Fargo says all customers and workers are OK.
