Pedro Cortez was presented with a World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp, and an Honorable Service Lapel Button in Dos Palos on Saturday.
Cortez's military records were damaged and misplaced years ago, so he was never able to receive recognition for his military service. But the office of Rep. Jim Costa, D-Fresno, helped track down his records. The congressman also attended Saturday's ceremony to honor Cortez.
