First production Tesla Model 3 expected to be finished on Friday

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Tesla is set to release its first mass market electron vehicle this week.

CEO Elon Musk tweeted the Model 3 has passed all of its requirements and the first car is expected to roll of the assembly line on Friday. Tesla plans to produce 100 units in August and 20,000 in December.

Pre-orders for these cars opened up about a year ago, causing a huge backlog. Musk says more than 300,000 people have already placed a deposit.

The vehicles have a price tag of $35,000, which is far less than the previous models.
