Downtown Fresno mainstay moving to new location
The Cosmopolitan Tavern at Fresno and G Street is moving to make way for High-Speed Rail, it'll reopen at a new location near the Selland Arena.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Downtown Fresno landmark is temporarily closing.

The Cosmopolitan Tavern at Fresno and G Street is moving to make way for High-Speed Rail.

The last lunches there were served at the site Friday.

The Lanfranco family opened a hotel at the site back in 1902 and the bar opened in 1933.

Owner Gary Lanfranco says he's actually looking forward to the move and says Cosmo's will stay in the family.

"My son is 4th generation, his name is Joe, and Joe is going to make this his career and he does a great job of it so it's going to be his baby when we move," he said.

The Cosmopolitan will reopen in mid-July at Ventura and O Street, just behind Selland Arena.

Lanfranco is hoping his regulars keep coming and expects to attract a lot of new business.
