Fresno business turning ordinary ties into sparkling accessories

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- They are no ordinary ties. The men's neckwear sparkles and shines.

"When you wear a Sparkle Tie, people are going to remember you. Women wear sparkle, Why can't men?" said Sparkle Ties Daniel Malcom.

Daniel Malcom is the proud owner of Sparkle Ties.

The Fresno State graduate started the business in 2016 after trying to dress up date night and match his wife.

"People love it, they say where did you get that tie? I usually get the most compliments about my ties from women," said Malcom.

The ties come in all patterns and designs. Malcom photographs them and showcases them online.

"Sparkle ties get their sparkle from rhinestones, Swarovski crystals, even shiny metallic fibers that we're able to have in the fabric," said Malcolm.

Prices range from $40 and up. The business is a family affair, with sister in law marina hand gluing each rhinestone or crystals to the ties.

"I like how creative it is. You start with different textiles and for the most part, I get to decide where to put the rhinestones strategically," said Sparkle Ties Marina Malcolm.

Orloff Jewelers in the Fig Garden Village Shopping is helping the small business by selling Sparkle Ties.

So far the reaction has been fun from customers who like expressing themselves.

"I've had some of the most conservative people wearing these ties and absolutely loving it and getting the compliments and coming back and buying seconds and thirds," said Orloff.

They say they are proud to support a Fresno State grad who is on his way to a glimmering business.
