Indoor adventure game offers thrills in Northeast Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- People are voluntarily locking themselves in rooms in the Valley for one of the hottest games in the country.

Teams have to test their minds inside of a live escape room.

"As the hour and time go on, the intensity and excitement definitely increases too as people try to find their way out," Breakout Fresno co-owner Sarah Clem said.

"Welcome to Breakout," she said. "Has anyone ever done anything like this? Well, we love first timers."

On this Thursday, we caught up with staff and a team as they headed into the sabotage room and began their 60-minute journey.

The interactive game gives players a storyline and plot. Then, through riddles, people receive clues to help them break out of the room.

Clem and her family started the business April 16 after experiencing the game first hand in Philadelphia.

"Immediately, his first response was 'I want to do it again,' and then it was a topic of conversation the rest of our vacation and we were just like 'Fresno needs this,'" Clem said. "It's something the Valley and the town would love."

Now in its third week, times have been getting filled up by Valley residents trying to unlock the clues of the game.

Breakout Fresno has three rooms that people can test out.

"Everything you need is in the room," Clem said. "Everything is solved basically with your brain, so there's not any strength or anything that's required. "It's all just mental power."

Teams of two to six can compete together and the cost starts at $24 a person, and as the clock counted down we watched as the team tried anything to get out.

The group of first timers now hooked.

For now, the game is being played Thursday through Sunday at Breakout Fresno.
