SHAVER LAKE, Calif. (KFSN) -- Despite the lower water levels, Shaver Lake officials said they're starting the tourist season off on a positive note. Officials said they saw a strong turnout Memorial Day weekend. They believe that's because water levels are high enough for all recreational activities and other lakes may not have as much water. Officials say because of the short winter season, the summer tourist season is playing a bigger role in its economy.

Organizations are getting creative to keep tourists in Shaver Lake. The Central Sierra Museum has added a new exhibit and is using social media to reach out to visitors.

In town, some local hotels are offering live music. Up the mountain, China Peak mountain resort is open for the summer season. They're catering to mountain bikers and disc golf enthusiasts -- and allowing them to ride the ski lifts to the trails.
