Shoppers line up for new Asian supermarket in Northeast Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Island Pacific Supermarket has been very busy since it recently opened a new store at First and Bullard Avenues.

They celebrated their grand opening Friday.

The store includes an in-house restaurant which serves traditional Filipino-American meals. You can also find freshly baked breads and pastries.

Marketing manager Charina Carrera says the supermarket chain serves a rapidly increasing Filipino-American community. "We're very much happy with the turn out of this store," she said. "As you can see, every day there's a line in our deli and there's a line in our bakery."

Island Pacific Supermarket now has 15 stores in California and Seattle.

The new Northeast Fresno location is the chain's first in the Central Valley.
