Why wait until Halloween to dress up? Go get that costume and transform into your favorite Hollywood star at Bowl For Kids' Sake. The 31st Annual Bowl For Kids' Sake is a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central California.

BBBS of CC Executive Director Diane Phakonekham dressed as Holly Golightly and Fund Development Director Nichole Castillo dressed as Marilyn Monroe appeared on ABC30's Valley Focus to talk about this year's events and the importance of mentoring. Here's a portion of their conversation.

Margot: So, Nichole, tell us about this annual event and why it's so significant to the valley.

Nichole: Actually, this year will be our 31st annual Bowl for Kids' Sake event. And we're going big. All Hollywood. We're gonna have paparazzi, red carpet style.

We encourage all the companies and communities to come out and support our organization with our mentorship program. We're really excited. It will be at Bowlero and it's gonna be on March 17th.

Diane: It's been 50 years since we created and started Big Brothers Big Sisters. That's so exciting. Our program, for those that are not aware -- it's a one-to-one mentoring program. We service children ages six to 14 to find them a positive role model, someone to love them, to be there for them, to care about them. These children are wonderful. They just need a guidance.

So, we're always looking for mentors. We have a huge waiting list. It's so heartbreaking when we know that there are children out there that are just waiting patiently for a positive role model.

Margot: And all you need to do is give time.

Diane: You don't need to be talented in any way or have some unique attribute. It just is time and caring. It's very flexible.

So, we make sure that we find someone that's compatible with you. So, let's say you want to be a Big Sister. We interview you. We do the background check. We want to make sure we find a little mini you. And it's all based on having fun and just being there for one another.
