Convicted felon arrested during traffic stop after gun found
The first stop happened Friday night near Maple and Dwight Avenues in Southeast Fresno.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno police officers say they have taken five firearms off the streets in the past 48 hours. The first stop happened Friday night near Maple and Dwight Avenues in Southeast Fresno.

Officers say 28-year-old Rashad Jones was detained during the stop. After searching the vehicle they found a handgun in the glove box.

Jones told officers he carried the gun for protection due to recent gun violence.

Officers learned that Jones is a convicted felon and took him into custody on various weapon-related charges.
