Central Unified students are getting past tablet security systems
Central Unified School District is facing some criticism over security breaches on tablets they gave to students.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Central Unified School District is facing some criticism over security breaches on tablets they gave to students.

Some students are able to download games from the Google Play store that are not part of the curriculum.

Administrators say they're able to track when the kids get around the security system, and then they block the access.

The superintendent says the breaches are actually helping them learn about the new technology.

"For those that say it's slowing down the learning process I would say it's accelerating it," said Superintendent Mike Berg. "They're doing more faster and critical thinking in order to find these ways around than they ever have before."

Central Unified parent Aaliyah Anae said, "My kids I use it for education I don't let them download games. I don't know what other parents think but I don't think it's for education."

Students tell Action News they can face disciplinary action if they're caught with the games so they tend to delete them.

Administrators say the internet bugs have been fixed for all middle and high school students so they are now able to go home with students.

Elementary school students will get to take their tablets home before Thanksgiving break.
