Clovis Unified teachers prep as their school year kicks off Monday

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Clovis Unified starts another school year Monday with a brand new school.

Boris Elementary is now one of the district's 33 elementary schools. It's opening in east-central Fresno on the corner of Clinton and Temperance Avenues.

Debbie Hunt has been working hard getting the front office ready for the first day of school.

Since Boris Elementary is brand new, she started from scratch and she's so busy she had her husband speak on her behalf.

"I'm helping her get her desk set up and all the little odds and ends set up," Debbie's husband Tony said. "So, it's been seven days a week for about three weeks. The amount of work that each employee does at a school, especially when it opens, is phenomenal."

It's been a family effort, even involving their son Kevin, a new 6th grader here on campus.

"I'm excited for the technology and meeting new friends and seeing my new teacher," he said.

And while the hallways and classrooms are empty now, Monday morning, they'll be full of students for the very first time.

And although Kevin's excited to go to a brand new school, he said he will miss summer.

"Are you looking forward to doing homework again?" an Action News reporter asked Kevin.

"No," he said laughingly.

He is looking forward to going to school where his mom works and someone we know will be even more busy when that first bell rings.

"I think she's a great face for the school," Tony said. "She's a great person to be around and joke with, and so on, but she also gets a lot of work done."

Boris Elementary is just one of many schools throughout Clovis Unified starting school Monday morning with a total of 42,000 students.
