FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno State engineering student will graduate debt-free thanks to a generous scholarship presented to her Tuesday. And she had no idea it was coming.

Kristie Miguel is an engineering student who is extremely involved on campus and with the community. She's a member of the honors program at the engineering school. Tuesday morning, in front of her mentors and parents, PG&E recognized her for her hard work.

They awarded her a scholarship of up to $20,000 per year to complete her degree.

"When I work hard it's not because I'm hoping to gain things like scholarships, it's because I enjoy it. It's what I want to do. I want to give back to the community with these leadership positions. I wanted to gain technical experience to help me when it comes to finding a job when I graduate."

Krista still has one year of school left. She's headed to Texas over the summer for an internship at general electric.
