District officials say a majority of students have already taken advantage of the free wifi and that more than 60 percent of students participate athletics or other activities that usually require a lengthy bus ride.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Students taking a long bus route home now have some help to keep them busy.

Fresno Unified announced Friday it has installed Wi-Fi on all of the district's school buses.

All 99 buses will feature the password-protected Internet feature.

District officials say a majority of students have already taken advantage of the free wifi and that more than 60 percent of students participate athletics or other activities that usually require a lengthy bus ride.

"Our students do spend a great deal of time on buses and they do in most districts so we thought we would take every advantage to make learning available anytime anywhere for them," superintendent Michael Hanson said.

"They may think differently sometimes but there are times they can maximize time on transportation to get homework done communicate via email with teachers or home."

The Wi-Fi does not allow students to use sites like Facebook or Ebay.
