Parlier High School seniors awarded more than $1 million in scholarships
Three seniors recognized as Dell Scholars, receive $20,000 each

PARLIER, Calif. (KFSN) -- Thursday night was an historic one for Parlier High School, as their seniors were recognized for racking up more than a million dollars in scholarships and grant money.

Three students were awarded $20,000 from Dell, including Aidee Esquivel, who, after plenty of paperwork and waiting, found out she won the prestigious award in April.

Esquivel is one of four children to a single mother who migrated from Mexico.

Like the other scholars, she's from a low income family. Family is immensely important to her. One family duty includes caring for her disabled older brother.

"My brother was actually the one who inspired me to keep on going. And seeing him every day made me feel better and it made me realize that some people are struggling to even live so I should take the opportunities I have and just thrive and do what I can do with them," Esquivel said.

Esquivel will attend Fresno State next year and plans to become a registered nurse.
