KERMAN, Calif. (KFSN) -- A learning program in Kerman is helping kids develop their young minds and bodies during the summer.

Nearly 600 eager students attended the five-week enrichment program Thursday at Goldenrod Elementary School.

During those weeks, kids will receive a well-rounded education with classes teaching science, technology, reading, and sports.

About 40 instructors came to campus ready to give students something more productive during their summer break.

"Programs like these gets them off the couch for five weeks and keep them not only physically but mentally stimulated through all the things that we do," Titus Karvon with the Fresno County Office of Education said. "And it prevents the learning gap, the summer learning loss gap that can occur if they're not keeping their brains working over the summer months."

The Kerman Enrichment Summer Adventures program is divided into two programs.

One had students from Kindergarten through 3rd grade and the other served 4th through 8th graders.
