Police crack down on school zone traffic violations
Authorities want parents to remember to be careful since more people will be on the roads.

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Thousands of students across the Valley are now back in class. That means a lot more drivers are around schools as parents drop kids off on campus.

Authorities want parents to remember to be careful since more people will be on the roads. They also say they will hand out tickets to people breaking the law near local schools.

Clovis police want pedestrians and drivers to know they share equal responsibility when it comes to crosswalks. Pedestrians must proceed with caution and look both right and left before entering the crosswalk. Drivers must slow down in school zones and pay attention to pedestrians in crosswalks. Crossing guards with stop signs are a big help, but not all schools have them.

Police presence should serve as a reminder to motorists to be careful in and around school zones. Also, look for the mobile radar units, which show the speed your car is traveling. Keep in mind an officer may be in the vicinity.
