Protesting a plan to increase tuition
University of California students are protesting a plan to increase tuition at campuses across the state, including UC Merced.

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- University of California students are protesting a plan to increase tuition at campuses across the state, including UC Merced.

The Merced students made their voices heard at a rally Tuesday morning. But they also shared their message silently at one point -- by wearing duct tape over their mouths showing the debt they already owe for their education.

The demonstrators are upset about a proposal the UC Board of Regents will consider Wednesday. It would increase tuition up to five percent each year for the next five years.

Governor Brown will also attend the meeting Wednesday in San Francisco.
