Sierra Pacific High School, Greg Henry, has passed away
Students and staff at Sierra Pacific High School in Hanford are mourning the loss of their principal.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Students and staff at Sierra Pacific High School in Hanford are mourning the loss of their principal.

The Kings County Sheriff's Office said they found Mr. Henry near 14th Avenue and Elder Avenue, northwest of Hanford. They said he was found deceased inside his vehicle from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Mr. Henry took over as principal of Sierra Pacific in July of 2015. He previously served as principal at Pioneer Middle School.

Staff at pioneer are encouraging students to wear pink on Tuesday in his memory.

Superintendent Bill Fishbough issued the following statement:

"We are shocked and saddened by Mr. Henry's death and our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

"Mr. Henry worked for the District as a math teacher at Hanford West High School from 1999 through 2004 and Assistant Principal of Sierra Pacific High School for the 2014/2015 school year. In July 2015, Mr. Henry became the Principal of Sierra Pacific High School.

"As Principal, he interacted with many staff members and students every day and this loss to our school family will be felt deeply.

"Counseling services are on site to work with students and staff."
