'Dancing With the Stars' semifinals features tears, cheers and an engagement ring

LOS ANGELES -- It's a smokin' semifinal round for season 20 of "Dancing With the Stars." There were some perfect scores mixed with emotional dances, Len Goodman on the dance floor and a live wedding proposal to boot!

First the four remaining couples performed their individual routines. Then it was time for another DWTS first. The judges entered the competition! Len Goodman, Julianne Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli each joined one of the four remaining couples. They were given final say over their song, dance style and overall creative idea. (In case you're wondering, the judges' choice dances were scored by the three others who weren't participating in the specific dance.)

Here's a rundown of the judges scores for the night, from highest to lowest:

RIKER LYNCH - 40 out of 40 for individual; 30 out of 30 for judge's choice; 70 out of 70 total

Riker admitted he was scared to tackle a Contemporary routine and wrestled a bit with the dance during rehearsal week. Allison Holker's patience and coaching skills paid off and he earned a perfect score. Head judge Len Goodman told the couple he loves watching a great performance and that Riker had given them one. Bruno Tonioli let Riker know that it would have been a tough routine even for a pro dancer. Carrie Ann Inaba said she wanted to be on the dance floor with the couple, and Julianne Hough was left virtually speechless.

Julianne found her voice when asked to be the couple's coach for their second dance. She planned an Argentine Tango, and Allison and Riker wanted her to be a part of the routine. The concept was that Julianne is "old school" and Allison is the "new guard." Riker could not have been in better hands. Len praised his flair, technique and musicality. Carrie Ann says he dances like a champion, and Bruno called him a leading man who handled all that the two pros could throw at him.

NASTIA LIUKIN - 40 out of 40 for individual; 30 out of 30 for judge's choice; 70 out of 70 total

We learn why Nastia always has that razor sharp focus. She had her eye on the Olympic prize since she was old enough to walk. After she achieved gold medal status, Nastia wasn't sure she'd find another big goal, but she can thank "Dancing with the Stars!" I was a little surprised to hear her mom and dad didn't love the idea of DWTS, but they quickly warmed up to the process. Her Quickstep with Sasha Farber (filling in for Derek Hough on this round) was one of the fastest we've ever seen on the show. Len praised their speed and control, and Carrie Ann thought the dance was a showstopper!

It's Len's turn to head into the rehearsal hall and work with Nastia and Derek. Len talks about the perils of getting old, how you want to do certain things (like dance) but your body just won't let you anymore. The thought makes everyone quite emotional! And then Len takes to the dance floor for the final eight counts of the routine and it's waterworks! Through her tears, Carrie Ann called it one of the most memorable dances ever, and Bruno thought it glowed with nostalgic warmth and love for the art form.

RUMER WILLIS - 38 out of 40 for individual; 30 out of 30 for judge's choice; 68 out of 70 total

Rumer opened up more than she ever has about being the kid of two very famous parents. She didn't whine about it, but you could see how it could mess with your head. She struggled with self-esteem issues for quite a while, but her mother Demi Moore told us how much this show has helped her oldest daughter find her own strength. After performing an elegant but sensual Viennese Waltz, Len told Rumer and Val they are on a roll. Julianne thought their execution was right on, and Bruno called it appropriately steamy while still lyrical and romantic. Carrie Ann said she was earthy but angelic.

The angel was transformed into a swan for round two. Bruno is their coach and he comes up with an idea he called "Contemporary fusion," which basically meant it had a little bit of everything in the routine. Val and Rumer are nervous by some of the ballet style moves because neither of them has any ballet background, but there's enough other steps in there to show their range and Bruno's madness. Len called Rumer's dancing brilliant. Carrie Ann told her she brought grace, beauty and lyricism to the ballroom.

NOAH GALLOWAY - 36 out of 40 for individual; 30 out of 30 for judge's choice; 66 out of 70 total

Once again we have a heartfelt and emotional story about Noah's past and it's still amazing to see how far he has come since his injury. But I can't bury the lead any more...yes his Viennese Waltz was lovely and the judges said nice things. Then Erin Andrews asks his girlfriend Jamie to assess his progress. While she's having what she thinks is her moment in the spotlight to rave about Noah, he surprises her by getting down on one knee and proposing! The ballroom is stunned. The cast is crying, and of course, she said yes! How do you top a live wedding proposal? With a perfect score, of course.

Carrie Ann conceived a Paso Doble that she hoped would highlight Noah's journey and use his physical skills to their best abilities. Julianne said she once again had chills and thought this was the best dance she'd ever seen Noah perform. Len loved that the couple didn't back down from the battle and left it all on the dance floor.

At various times the judges all said this was one of the top semifinals in all ten years of the show. It's impossible to say who'll be eliminated Tuesday night on the results show. The race is truly too close to call!
