FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A popular a cappella group touring the country will perform in the Valley on Wednesday, September 13th at 7 p.m. Filharmonic takes to the stage at Fresno State to put on a show for their growing fan base. The Filharmonic is riding a huge wave of popularity.

"Oh yeah, this was planned. I went to school majoring in music and I wanted to do music for the rest of my life," said V.J. Rosales, Filharmonic

An appearance in the movie "Pitch Perfect 2" set up the Filharmonic for a world tour last year.

Sometimes passion puts a career path on hold. Trace Gaynor graduated from USC to become a journalist.

"Dance wit me" is the first original song from this group of Filipino-Americans enjoying a growing mainstream audience.

I think original music is definitely the next thing for us. We have yet to really embark on that. A few years ago, Visalia's Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix urged his friends Joe and Jules to form a singing group.

"Since we are a Filipino group and we do take Top 40 songs, it helps our culture and who we are to be more accessible to more people because they recognize the top 40 songs," said Jules Cruz, Filharmonic.

Singing is in their blood. They all grew up performing at family parties.

"Uncles would make like all the cousins put a show together and so each family had to sing a solo song," said Joe Caigoy, Filharmonic.

Now they get paid to do what they love.

Tonight's 7 p.m. show at Fresno State's Satellite Student Union is free for Fresno State students, $5 for everyone else.
