Lady Gaga has never failed to catch our attention, but during last night's Oscars she caught it in a good way.

The singer reminded everyone she can do more than wear crazy outfits at the 2015 Oscars, blowing everyone away with her "The Sound of Music" tribute.

Gaga nailed several of the film's notoriously difficult songs, including the title track, "My Favorite Things" and "Climb Every Mountain." Her power-house rendition brought the stunned audience to its feet and sent social media ablaze.

The performance was a departure from the stunts that usually get the singer attention, like wearing dresses made of meat and "hatching" out of an egg to perform. While many sang her praises, several of her fans said that they were surprised at those who hadn't noticed her talent before.

"The Sound of Music," the classic musical-turned-film about a nun who becomes a nanny for seven children and falls in love with their father, celebrates its 50th anniversary on screen this year. It swept the Oscars when it premiered, taking home five awards including Best Picture.

Julie Andrews, who starred in the film as Maria von Trapp, came out following the performance to present an award. Andrews, 79, has had limited ability to sing since a throat operation nearly 20 years ago.

The performance won the approval of the original icon. Andrews applauded and embraced Lady Gaga as she came out.
