Obi-Wan Kenobi may have had some hope for life after all!

On Feb. 17, Peter Mayhew, who plays Chewbacca in the Star Wars films, began tweeting images of an early version of the film's script, giving fans a vintage peek back at the screenplay that would become the sci-fi classic we know today. Mayhew reached the page depicting the lightsaber battle between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it turns out that Kenobi was originally intended to survive his battle with the Sith master.

This is different from what came to be in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, where the wise mentor to Luke Skywalker was struck down by Vader's lightsaber.

Fans were surprised to hear the news that Kenobi at one point was intended to live.

"Mind Blown but happy with the route they took." tweeted one fan.

"Ben has been my hero since I was 10 in '77! to think he might have lived...!," tweeted another.
