Family honors their son after being killed in drive by shooting
The family of a Fresno homicide victim is making sure his legacy lives on.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- 21-Year-old Rahman Newsome would have received his diploma Friday had he not been killed in a drive-by shooting. His mother tells us graduation was his greatest dream.

Tears not laughter filled this somber ceremony. Gloria Newsome says her son worked all his life towards this goal only to be gunned down two months shy of graduation.

Police say Rahman Newsome was trying to catch a bus in October. He was a dedicated student heading home on a school night when a drive-by shooter killed him near Normal and Mayfair Drive.

Rahman's family tried setting aside that grief Friday morning celebrating his accomplishments at the Fresno EOC Local Conservation Corps.

The 21-year-old not only volunteered here but was also working to complete high school.

Friends say Rahman will never realize those dreams now. Their only desire is to catch the shooter. His mom spoke to other graduates Friday urging them to take advantage of life and live the way her son did.
