DENVER -- When Val Starks found out her daughter lied about her age and called herself a "freak" on her Facebook page, mom laid down the law. She publicly chastised her daughter in a video that's being widely shared online.

As punishment for the Facebook page, which featured photos of her daughter in a bra, Starks told ABC News she gave her a choice between getting a spanking or making the video to post online.

"She said she'd rather have a whoopin', so I chose the latter," Starks said.

Over the course of the 5-minute video, the single mom lists all the reasons her daughter is still a kid. She points out that she still has a bedtime and watches the Disney Channel, among other things.

Her daughter cries and asks that she not be made to go to school on Monday, the day after the video was posted. Starks says her daughter will be spending her summer reading and thinking about what she did.

"She's a kid, and she's gonna stay a kid, and as long as she's under my roof, she's gonna do what I say," Starks tells the camera.

In less than a week, the video has more than 11 million views. Many people praised Starks' parenting, saying the teen must have learned her lesson.

"That child will one day look back at this and appreciate her mother," commented Jason L Lindley.

Others had more critical things to say, calling into question whether there could have been a better punishment and how this happened in the first place.

"Mom also needs to take some blame here for letting her daughter have free reign on fb," wrote Gina Perry.

"I agreed with the video but there was no need for insulting and degrading her," added Casey Danielle. "Should have to [sic] stuck to the issue at hand."

Whether or not people agree with her methods, Starks hopes the video will bring attention to the dangers of internet predators.

"Anybody could have coerced her into meeting her in a park, and she would have thought it was a 13-year-old boy but it [could have been] a grown man who wants to do bodily harm -- and the coroners could have been coming to my house," Starks told ABC News. "I would rather embarrass her and done this than to go to a morgue and verify my child's body."
