Fire rips through home in Madera County
Crews put out a fire at a vacation home and stopped the flames from spreading in the Madera County foothills.

MADERA COUNTY (KFSN) -- Crews put out a fire at a vacation home and stopped the flames from spreading in the Madera County foothills. It happened just after midnight at a home on Scenic Drive near Highway 41, just north of Oakhurst.

Ten engines were sent to fight the flames.

Firefighters arrived to find the home was 75-percent engulfed in flames. No word on what caused the fire at this time.

Firefighters are glad they stopped the blaze from spreading to the nearby brush.

Cal Fire Battalion Chief Troy Cheek said, "The biggest issue is to contain it to the structure. It's better to lose one structure which is not something we try to do and keep it out of the vegetation than let it get into the vegetation and burn 20 other houses down."

No one was home at the time of the fire.

One firefighter was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
