Fresno Police renew focus on pedestrian and bicyclist safety
Police say from 2013 to 2015, there were more than 50 fatalities involving pedestrians and bicyclists.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno's police department is stepping up enforcement operations to make roads safer for all commuters.

The department focused on factors causing accidents. Officers mapped out locations where pedestrian and bike collisions have occurred over the past three years.

Police say they are doing this now because with the weather getting better -- more pedestrians and bicyclists will be hitting the roads.

"So it is very important that motorists take a little more time leaving the house a little early and be aware of their surroundings," Lt. David Ramsey with the Fresno Police Department said. "Use hand free devices as much as possible when driving and slow down."
