Good Samaritan's assistance leads to gang member's arrest
A suspected drunk driver was speeding through the area and drove onto a curb before crashing into a car.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Southwest Fresno neighborhood was awakened to a loud crash Sunday morning.

A suspected drunk driver was speeding through the area and drove onto a curb before crashing into a car. He turned the corner and finally came to a stop where Edward Williams tried to detain the driver.

"He took off running and I tackled him to the ground and held him, he said he wasn't going to run anymore and the next minute I let him up and he took off running," Williams said.

Police arrived and arrested Ivan Acevedo, a known gang member. They say he was drunk.

Inside his car, they found a fully loaded gun.

Williams said, "It could have been my life, but I'm glad God was looking down on me."

This situation leaves neighbors like Olivia Garza worried.

"I am worried now because my house is very close to the street and I sit out here and watch the cars go by and this one was really close," Garza explained.

Williams actions could have put him in danger but, he says he did the right thing.

"I ain't no hero, I'm just a person out here who loves being here for the next person when they need me."

With no insurance, he must now find a way to fix his vehicle.

Police say they are thankful for the neighbors' help and if it was not for them the arrest would have been much more difficult.

He was booked into the Fresno County Jail for hit and run DUI and for being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
