FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and on Friday, a free community event was held in Southwest Fresno.

Centro La Familia Advocacy Services met with families, offering several informational booths, free food and some fun and games for the kids. The organization provides support for rural areas in Fresno County in both Spanish and English. They work with parents who need parenting classes, as well as offer help to domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking victims.

"I think that many times people, like I said, they don't know where to go, and so when they come here, many times our reputation is go to Centro La Familia. If they can't help you, they can tell you where you can get the information and get the help that you need," said Chris Torres, a mental health consumer family advocate.

ABC30 is a proud partner of Centro La Familia Advocacy Services.
