FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Dozens of people got vaccinated against the flu in Downtown Fresno. The Fresno County Department of Public Health hosted its final flu clinic of the year on Saturday.

Flu season typically peaks in January or February and can last as late as May. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is advising doctors and clinicians that more than half of this year's flu samples didn't match well with the current vaccine.

Officials with the Fresno County Department of Public Health say it doesn't mean you shouldn't get the vaccine.

"We're really concerned out there where people are hearing about the vaccine may not be as effective. It's still 48 percent effective against a particular strain, so definitely it's still a great preventative measure to take right now. It's effective and it's something we definitely are supporting," said Joe Prado, the health department's division manager.

Last year in Fresno County, 22 people died from the flu. Those most at risk are people over the age of 65 and children under the age of 2.
