FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Thousands of people around the country and in Fresno walked to bring awareness to a unique disorder.

Dozens of people, including families, gathered for the Conquer Chiari Walk Across America at Fresno City College on Saturday. Chiari malformation is a serious neurological disorder affecting 300,000 people in the United States.

On Saturday, different groups across the country walked to raise money, but also to support one another. Organizers say thousands of families struggle with the disease, and some of them live in the Valley.

"I have it, my two daughters have it, and I've actually had to spell it for doctors, and they've googled it in front of me. So we really need to create awareness and a sense of community, but also raise money for research," said Crystal Fretz, a walk organizer.

This was the third annual Conquer Chiari Walk in Fresno.
