FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Dozens of people got a leg up on better health Sunday thanks to mobile nurses from Fresno State.

Several nurses and students performed blood pressure checks and other basic health assessments at the Fresno Fairgrounds swap meet.

A lot of their patients are people who don't have easy access to health care.

"Some people who don't even go to the doctor because they can't afford it because there's a high co-pay," Kathleen Rindahl said. "Even if they have insurance, then we're able to screen them and also find resources for them in order to get care."

They can also get doctors to accelerate appointments if they spot serious problems. The Health on Wheels program also makes visits all across the Central Valley, helping to fill gaps in providing health care.

They even started giving out flu shots for this winter.
