FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Valley Children's Hospital is adjusting its plan to keep sick visitors away from patients during the flu season.

Starting Monday, all visitors will be screened for signs of respiratory viral illnesses when entering the hospital. Those symptoms include fever, cough and runny nose. Any family members who are healthy will be allowed to visit their loved ones.

In the past, visitors age 12 and younger were not allowed to enter the in-patient areas once the hospital declared it to be flu season.

A spokesperson for Valley Children's Hospital says the goal is to be more family-centered while maintaining safe, high-quality care.
