FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- It was all about girl power at the Fresno Fairgrounds on Saturday. About 1,000 people attended the first ever GIRL Expo. The Girl Scouts of Central California South hosted the event and invited the public to attend.

Young girls were encouraged to stop by several different booths where they could get hands-on lessons in everything from camping to robotics and even the science of crime scene investigations. They could also learn about doing community service projects.

"We're giving young girls leadership skills and opportunities and positive value structures, and that is what our country is based on, and that is what we want to continue," said Dr. Cathy Ferguson, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Central California South.

Saturday's expo also had a cookie rally that included some samples. The Central California South Chapter will start selling the famous treats next weekend.
