Zambrano learned Monday he is going to prison for the next 44-years.

Eladio Zambrano waved goodbye to his family and friends and thanked them for their support before getting escorted back to his jail cell.

Zambrano was sentenced to 44 years in prison Monday in the shooting death of his brother's girlfriend Sierra Berg.

Defense Attorney, Linden Lindahl said, "There are some issues here... the testimony came in that there were two people here with gunshot residue on them."

Before sentencing was handed down Zambrano listened to the victim's father describe the pain Sierra's murder has caused him and his family.

"It's hard to believe my daughter's gone. I cannot believe she's gone. I wake up and don't remember for about 30 seconds and then it all comes back. I gotta steal myself for the whole day."

Lindahl said, "My sense of it is he truly feels the heartbreak that Sierra Berg's father feels... he does."

Zambrano's defense attorney says he will file appeal papers in the case Tuesday.
