Man arrested for stealing woman's purse in Southeast Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man on parole for burglary is in the Fresno County Jail for snatching a woman's purse in Southeast Fresno.

Police arrested 30-year-old Michael Christopher Chavez at his home on Saturday.

Authorities said Chavez matched the suspect seen on surveillance video stealing the victim's purse while she was sitting outside Martinizing Cleaners. The footage then shows the thief riding a bike, then moving in and grabbing the purse.

Gutierrez says she had all her identification and money inside.

Chavez is a known gang member. He faces charges of felony theft and parole violation.
