Man jumps from window to escape house fire in Central Fresno
Sunday morning a man was forced to jump out of a window to safety after a fire broke out inside his home.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Sunday morning a man was forced to jump out of a window to safety after a fire broke out inside his home.

It happened along Seventh Street and Michigan Avenue in Central Fresno.

Firefighters say the man woke up to the smell of smoke but went back to sleep after not any seeing flames.

Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Dan Perkins said, "He drew whatever fire there was. It was probably in the attic because he couldn't see the flames initially he just smelled smoke and thought it was going to clear out because of that but he drew the fire all the way across the attic and by the time our crews arrived it was fire already through the roof."

Crews doused water through the roof to prevent the fire from spreading to a home next door.

Fresno Fire tells us the house did not have working smoke detectors and is a total loss.

The man inside suffered smoke inhalation.
