Officials are reminding drivers heading to the snow to take extra precautions this morning.

The California Highway Patrol says drivers must carry tire-chains during the snow season. Drivers who ignore the requirement could cause a crash.

The CHP is also issuing a warning to people playing in the snow. "We have snow parks, we've got ski resorts and the ski resorts have had a rough couple years. So they're running some great specials. They have the parking facilities to accommodate all these folks. The side of a highway is not where you want to have a snowball fight," said Justice Jones, California Highway Patrol.

The CHP highly recommends drivers buy tire-chains before heading up to the sierra and to practice putting them on your car before leaving home.
