Large fire destroys abandoned home in Sanger
Crews say flames were shooting out of the house when they arrived.

SANGER, Calif. (KFSN) -- Crews say flames were shooting out of the house when they arrived.

Fire crews in Sanger were busy Wednesday morning after a large fire destroyed a home near North and Orchid Avenues.

Officials say the home was abandoned, but neighbors say squatters were often seen there. Fire officials say with the cold weather, a personal fire could have sparked the fire.

"We've had history at this property before, there's no power to the property, but with the cold environment and the weather we're seeing right now it doesn't surprise me that they may have had a little warming fire interior and it got out of hand," said Batt. Chief Michael Bowen, Fresno County Fire Department.

The home was destroyed but officials say they were able to stop the fire from spreading to nearby homes. No injuries were reported.
