Woman killed after being hit by vehicle in west-central Fresno
The Fresno Police Department responded at approximately 5:40 p.m. to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident near Shields and Valentine Avenues.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A woman was killed Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in west-central Fresno.

The Fresno Police Department responded at approximately 5:40 p.m. to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident near Shields and Valentine Avenues.

Officers arrived on scene and found a woman, described to be in her 70's, had been hit and emergency personnel issued first-aid to her. The woman was later transported to Community Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Both east and westbound lanes of Shields Avenue on Valentine are closed while authorities conduct an investigation.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
