FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- In Merced, hundreds of people hit the streets for the annual march in honor of Doctor King.

Each year, the route takes participants down Martin Luther King, Jr. Way from 24th Street to the Fairgrounds. Several local and state leaders took part Monday along with school bands and other residents.

Organizers say it's great to see people of all ages coming together to recognize the legacy of the late civil rights leader. "We're celebrating that dream of unity and coming together," said Necola Adams with the celebration committee. "And making sure everyone has an equal share and a fair share of the hope of the American dream."

At the end of the march, residents stayed at the fairgrounds for a celebration featuring speakers and performers.
