Family mourns loss after homicide at Fresno market
The longtime girlfriend of Anthony Jones says he died at the hospital last night, shortly after a dispute between him and another man inside Kearney Market ended in a shooting.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A family is mourning tonight after they say their loved-one was gunned down inside a Southwest Fresno store.

The longtime girlfriend of Anthony Jones says he died at the hospital last night, shortly after a dispute between him and another man inside Kearney Market. A day after her his death, his six-year-old daughter Ariel is trying to stay strong.

She looked up to him, and he took care of her. "How do you tell a 6-year-old that her dad's gone?" said Jones' girlfriend Maria Armenta. "This morning she was out the window asking is her daddy coming home. How do I explain that to her? It's hard."

The family of 38-year-old Anthony Jones says he was the man shot and killed after a disturbance between him and another man inside Kearney Market Saturday evening. Police are still searching for the suspect who ran from the scene.

"You know everybody has their up's and down's," Armenta said. "You know you dislike somebody, then fine, you know, you dislike that person. There's no reason for you to go out and take somebody's life."

Armenta is still in shock, dealing with the overwhelming sadness, and trying to stay strong for her daughters. "Who's going to take my baby to school now? You know who's going to pick her up from school?" Armenta said.

Armenta says Jones was in and out of jail, but was always there for his family when he was out, a true stay at home dad. He would cook, clean, and spend quality time with Ariel and his 16-year-old step-daughter.

But now, however hard it will be, they must continue life without him. Fresno Police detectives say the shooting seems to stem from a personal conflict and isn't gang-related.

Family members are pleading anyone with information to call police.

They've also set up a GoFundMe account.
