Abandoned hotel catches fire in Central Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An abandoned hotel in west-central Fresno caught fire Friday night.

The fire happened at the Storyland Inn on Goldenstate and McKinley Avenunes. Firefighters say it happened in one of the four hotel rooms in a unit. They say it appears someone might have broken into the hotel room.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but firefighters believe they may know what led up to it. "With cold and uncomfortable weather in town during the winter months a lot of people who are without any other options are gaining access to these abandoned structures," said Fresno Fire Department Capt. Justin Moore. "While inside these structures they use unsafe means to either cook food or keep warm thereby starting fires."

Authorities say no one was hurt in the fire.
