FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A local doctor is working to build support for his run at the state assembly.

Dr. Joaquin Arambula held a special election campaign kickoff event Saturday at the Calwa Park Community Center. He lives in Kingsburg and has worked as an emergency room physician at Adventist Medical Center -- Selma.

He's also the son of former assemblyman, Juan Arambula. "I'm fighting for a healthier valley," Arambula said. "I believe we need a healthy water supply, a healthy economy. We need access to healthcare and access to education because it is the greatest equalizer to pull ourselves out of poverty."

Arambula is running against Fresno City Council member Clint Olivier, democrat Ted Miller, and independent Daniel Tekunoff.
