Police make arrest in Merced arson fire
Jay Desmond Jackson is charged with arson after the fire at what used to be a Carrows restaurant on Yosemite parkway. The fire happened early Monday morning and caused $1.5 million worth of damage at the restaurant.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police in the North Valley have made an arrest in connection with a fire which investigators say was set intentionally at an abandoned Merced business.

Jay Desmond Jackson is charged with arson after the fire at what used to be a Carrows restaurant on Yosemite parkway. The fire happened early Monday morning and caused $1.5 million worth of damage at the restaurant.

First responders recorded video of the flames shooting out of the building. No one was inside at the time.

The restaurant has been closed for about a year.
