CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Valley man hand makes flamenco guitars.

"It's a soul, a south thing and you live it," said David Macias, David Macias Guitars.

Macias is passionate about flamenco music. But he's also passionate about making flamenco music too. The 82-year-old has been hand crafting guitars for the past 50 plus years.

"The wood, the guitar is very light. you make it all the way around in about a 16th of an inch," said Macias.

The instruments have captured the attention of musicians across the globe, including world famous flamenco guitarist Juan Serrano, who has used his guitars on stages big and small.

"That was a proud moment for me. All of the guitars on the stage were from me and Juan announced I was in the audience. It was a proud moment."

Macias got the flamenco bug as a student in the Valley and moved to Spain to study under experts. When he returned home, he tried his hand at guitar making and over time became successful. Inside his Clovis studio, he showed us the intricate work it takes to create classic and flamenco guitars.

He uses international wood to make each piece. Macias even has his own rosette for the instruments.

It takes about six months to make a custom guitar. He's sent them all around the world.

But for Macias, it's all about a labor of love and a love of flamenco music.
