MERCED COUNTY (KFSN) -- A Merced County family who lost everything in a fire is now searching for a cat that was taken from the property.

The fire destroyed this mobile home near Plainsburg Road and Highway 99 last month. Five people were there at the time, including a woman who was burned while trying to rescue her pets.

The fire victims believe only two of the six cats survived but they said one of them was taken away from the scene by two women who showed up during the chaos. The family doesn't know if the women were trying to help, but they're now desperate to get the cat back. "It would mean everything. Whenever she would see me, she would wag her tail, and she would come to me, and she knew which bedroom I was in," said Allan Sesate, fire victim.

The cat's owners said her name is Belle, and she's a tortoise shell color.
