Spring cleaning tips from Valley experts
Plenty of people spent the first full day of spring outside, but others made it a point to get their spring cleaning started.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Plenty of people spent the first full day of spring outside, but others made it a point to get their spring cleaning started.

Spring cleaning can be a daunting task, from cabinets to carpets cleaning experts at Home Depot say it's best to divide and conquer.

"stick to your list, divide it up by rooms or by what cleaning you want to do," Home Depot associate Scott Alexander said.

The most common place people miss is below the couch, something Alexander says is all about changing perspective.

"Get down on your knees and look where other people aren't looking, where kids are going to look," he said.

Fresno allergist and immunologist Dr. William Ebbeling says the couch and your bed are where dust mites breed.

"It eats your skin and the droppings go in your bed and that's the allergen for you," Ebbeling explained.

We all know spring time is synonymous with allergies, but something as simple as changing your air filter can cut back on those allergens.

"You can replace the filters every 3 to 6 months depending on who makes the filter," Ebbeling said.

Changing your filter isn't the only thing you should change often.

Dr. Ebbeling says you need to change your cleaning mask. "They're good for about 30 minutes to an hour," he said. "And then the stuff starts getting through."

Sealing your windows, doors, even outlets are key for keeping pollens in the air out.

"If you have to air the house out, let the window be slightly open during a rainy day as long as the water doesn't come in," Ebbeling said.
