VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Visalia police are looking for four men who broke into a home and assaulted a man inside. Police said the four men were wearing masks when they burst inside one of the homes on Vine Avenue, attacking a man and sending him to the hospital.

"You have masked people that force their way into the residence and assault the occupant-- that's a serious offense," said Sgt Greg Byerlee, Visalia Police Department.

Just before midnight Friday, Visalia police were sent to Conyer and Vine Avenue to help a man who had been assaulted during a home invasion.

"He was hit in the head suffered tissue damage laceration to the scalp," said Sgt. Byerlee.

Police said four suspects, believed to be in their 20's, broke into the home. There were other people inside, but only one person was attacked.

"I would not say that this area typically has this type of crime, we have incidences that occur all over town," said Sgt. Byerlee.

Andrea Rivera has lived in the neighborhood for six years and said the crime rate is higher than she'd like.

"It's a little scary. As you can see we have lots of dogs, so I feel pretty protected here-- but it would be nice to not have any of this here."

Police said the suspects took off with an undisclosed amount of property in a dark colored sedan.

One neighbor Action News spoke with said what the news of it all is concerning-- especially since there was a shooting inside a home across from hers about year ago.

Anyone with information should contact the Visalia Police Department.
