High speed case comes to a dramatic end in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two people are in custody following a high speed chase in Central Fresno.

Officers say they initially pulled a man over for a vehicle code violation around 11:15 on Sunday night when he began to back his car towards the officer before taking off. Officers were forced to call off the chase, after police say, he reached speeds of 100 miles per hour.

Eventually the driver lost control and hit a tree near First Street and Clinton Avenue. He then spun out into the on-coming lanes and hit another tree and a light pole before the car caught fire. The suspect then ran from the car into a nearby neighborhood.

"We did find the driver hiding in a nearby residence. He failed to comply with officers in which point the K9 did locate him and bit him," said Ron Hughes, Fresno Police Department.

The driver was treated for the K9 bite and is now facing several charges.

A woman, who was also in the car, was arrested on an unrelated probation charge. Officers say they are fortunate no one was seriously injured in the crash.
